August 2010 - Regional Mental Health Hospital – St. Joseph's London

HCP Social Infrastructure Canada Ltd. and our partners in the AI Health Consortium are delighted to announce that the RFP submission for the Regional Mental Health Hospital – St. Joseph's London (RMHC) has been completed. The project includes two new mental health hospitals, an 88-bed forensic psychiatric hospital in St. Thomas and a 156-bed specialized mental health hospital for adolescents and adults in London, Ontario.

The RMHC has provided mental health services for many years in the London area and it is now embarking on a renewal of "specialized" mental health services through the two new building projects. In concert with their academic partners – the University of Western Ontario and Fanshawe College – the RMHC will enter into a new approach to the treatment of mental illness. The buildings will be LEED® Gold Certified and will be significant landmark structures on the campuses in London and St. Thomas.

Through this Alternative Funding Procurement (AFP) process, HCP has been honoured to provide the Project Directorship for the project and the evidence-based health design advice for both the clinical and logistics services.

As one of the successful bidders for the project, announced in February 2010, HCP as a member of the AI Health Group submitted the Request for Proposal requirements on August 30, 2010.

April 2010 - McGill University Health Centre

HCP Social Infrastructure Canada Ltd. and our partners are honoured to have been selected on April 1st, 2010 as the Preferred Proponent for the design, build, finance and facility management of the McGill University Health Centre (MUHC) in Montreal, Quebec. HCP has been an integral part of the consortium during the design developmental phase of this important healthcare P3 project providing operational and evidence-based health design advice for the clinical and logistics services.

The MUHC is a teaching hospital that is linked to the McGill University. It provides a range of adult and child healthcare services while supporting the teaching and research functions of the University. The design of the new modern MUHC will enable MUHC to meet its clinical, teaching and research health objectives. The MUHC will be a 500-bed hospital complex with 154 beds for paediatrics care, 346 beds for adult care, ambulatory services, a Cancer Centre, two emergency departments (one adult, one paediatric), and teaching and research facilities. Services during the term of the concession include hard FM, parking and security. It will occupy a surface of approximately 177,362 m² at the Glen Campus.

Creating a truly healing environment for patients and families, improving patient safety and maximizing the functionality of clinical programs and the efficiency of the workplace for healthcare professionals, students and researchers, are essential aspects of the design for the future MUHC that the Montreal community, the McGill RUIS Network and the province of Quebec will be proud of.

April 2009 - Women’s College Hospital, Toronto, Ontario, Canada

HCP Canada is proud to provide project direction within the WC Health Partnership consortium. This team was recently short listed to bid on the Women’s College Hospital Capital Redevelopment Project in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. HCP Canada will provide the Development Team with a Project Director and Clinical Advisory services, including supplying commercial and Facilities Management leadership.

The Women’s College Hospital (WCH) is an academic ambulatory care Hospital specializing in women’s health dating back to 1883. The WCH’s vision is as a world leader in women’s health, ambulatory care, research and education. Their commitment is to optimal health outcomes for diverse women and their families.

The project is being delivered as an Alternative Financing and Procurement Project (AFP – similar to P3) under the Design Build Finance and Maintain (DBFM) format and will be certified as LEED® Silver upon completion. The Hospital is located in downtown Toronto in a highly congested neighbourhood surrounded by narrow roadways. This is the first multi-phased DBFM in Canada and HCP Canada is very excited about working on such an important project in the Canadian market.

The Request for Proposal was issued in early summer 2009 and was submitted in February, 2010.

July 2008 - Royal Jubilee Hospital Patient Care Centre

HCP Canada Ltd (HCP) is proud to be an essential part of the ISL Health team who achieved financial close with Vancouver Island Health Authority on this important P3 project in July, 2008, just 14 weeks after becoming initial preferred proponent.

The new 37,000m² Patient Care Centre will have the capacity for up to 500 beds to provide acute general care for patients who are recovering from illness, surgery or injury and mental health beds for acute and elderly care.

HCP has been an integral part of the Consortium from prequalification as Lead Clinical and Facilities Management advisors and Project Managers. HCP is now contracted as General Manager for ISL Health (Victoria) General Partnership for the construction and concession phases.

Focusing on patient safety, being elder friendly, a magnet hospital for staff and environmentally sustainable to LEED® Gold standards, the single bedrooms (which account for over 80%) are expected to significantly reduce hospital-acquired infection rates, enhance patient privacy, improve quality of sleep and speed recovery times.

Facilities services have been designed to achieve ease of service provision through the separation of flows and ‘out of sight’ design principles.

Construction is now underway on the new Patient Care Centre at the Royal Jubilee Hospital campus in Victoria, British Columbia. This will be complete by the end of 2010, and it will open to patients in 2011.
